Fox 40 and OHM Industrial Designers Capture National New Product Innovation of the Year Award
For Immediate Release
HAMILTON, ONTARIO (November 28, 2003) — Fox 40 International Inc. and OHM Industrial Designers Inc. – both of Hamilton, Ontario – were honoured by their design peers when they received the prestigious 2003 National New Product Innovation of the Year Award presented by the Design Exchange (DX) at a gala dinner in Toronto on November 27, 2003.
Fox 40 in partnership with OHM developed two marine safety products – a Watercraft Bailer Kit and a Safety Throw to comply with the rigorous standards of Safety Equipment Requirements set out by the Canadian Coast Guard.
The bailer is an extra large two litre shell with an elliptical shape and fits neatly in the bottom of any boat. The bailer kit is a premium multi-functional safety product that offers the watercraft bailer, a floating marine flashlight, the traditional pealess Fox 40 whistle with lanyard, 50' of safety rope with a float with a mirror in the lid to act as a daytime reflector.
The safety throw is a superior alternative to fabric throw bags. The design allows for accuracy at a greater distance during a water rescue when time is of the essence and people's lives are at stake. There is 50' of premium-quality polypropylene braided floating rope that has 900 lbs of breaking strength.
"This is important because we did it in partnership with OHM and because we are really, really committed to saving lives," said Ron Foxcroft, Founder and C.E.O. of Fox 40 International Inc.
The Design Exchange Awards competition is Canada's only awards program to judge design by results – balancing function, aesthetics and economic success. The panel was given a list of criteria to determine the design effectiveness – Design Innovation, Benefit to Client, Aesthetics, Function and Sustainable/Universal Design.
From over 40 submissions only five finalists were named in the category of New Products and this category was defined by consumer products available to the public and/or industrial products produced for industry and business-to-business use.
The other finalists in this category were BW Technologies (Gas Alert Micro – Compact 4-Gas Detector), Davide Tonizzo (Zoom Zone), DW Product Development Inc. & Camalor Manufacturing Inc. (Black & Decker Workmate WM375) and Nienkämper (Vox Office).
