"Burlington has a strong entrepreneurial culture, and a tradition of spawning world-class business leaders," said Mark Gregory, Chair of BEDC Board of Directors. "This year's nominees share much success which made our final decision difficult; but Ron is surely the top achiever."

"I sincerely congratulate Mr. Ron Foxcroft as the 2011 Entrepreneur of the Year. As a passionate and highly successful businessman, Ron deserves this honour for his outstanding leadership and achievements in diverse sectors and marketplaces. Over the past six years, BEDC has inducted the following acclaimed business persons into Burlington’s Business Hall of Fame: Harry Voortman (Voortman Cookies), Mark Chamberlain (Trivaris), Michael Lee‐Chin (AIC Ltd./Portland Holdings), Michael DeGroote Sr. (Laidlaw/Republic), Ron Joyce (Tim Horton’s) and Murray Hogarth (Pioneer Petroleums).

Each year a call for nominations is sent out to the business community. Then a nominating committee made up of BEDC Board of Directors chooses the entrepreneur by using stringent evaluation criteria.
